What were some of the things you felt prepared you for becoming an adult?
This life chose me. I didn’t choose this life, honestly I didn’t choose this life. But I’m doing my best to live my best life! Now, don’t get me wrong it’s sweet that our parents took the time to give us birth but it would have been helpful to give us an adult bible for life. Yes, we are taught manners and may be educated in many different forms but life is hard. With saying that it’s true that it can have moments of confusion or displacement in one’s life. Such as friends, relationships, careers, location, education, etc.
When you’re growing up you tend to see the fairy tale image of life from movies. The reality of it everyone upbringing is different whether sex, religion, political views, even profession plays apart. The walk of life is different for all of us, it comes with trials and errors. Trials and errors that can be overwhelming as an adult but it’s healthy to know you are never alone in this. The lessons of adulting is to teach us only if we’re willing to learn. If you find yourself going through the same errors in life, don’t you think it may be time to reevaluate your life decision(s). Being that I’m in the stage of adulting just as you are, I can say with the purest intensions it’s always okay to start over. Because to do the same thing and to think you will get a different outcome is a form of insanity.
I graduated from an HBCU; through my experience there it taught me about what is important and to stay the course of whatever you want because you can achieve it. It’s cliche to hear ‘if you put your mind to it you can achieve it’ but with it being cliche it’s true. In adulting, you have to have the willpower that you will achieve your goals and have as much success as your neighbor. You have to stay focused while remembering everything will be alright. Go back to that question you’re asked when you’re a kid in school, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’.
Make a list of 10 goals, see what you have accomplished that you wanted to achieve as a child. As you continue to grow into the adult you’re challenging yourself to become, reflect on what brings you the most joy. It’ll make the adulting process easier.
